Kapitan Man was one of a series of sisterships that were built in Vuosaari, Helsinki/Helsingfors, Finland by Valmet Oy Helsingin Telakka shipyard during the 1980s. She was their hull number 319 and she entered service during September of 1985 for the U.S.S.R. Far-Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO) . She and her sisters were designed for navigation in Arctic conditions and were fitted all with an icebreaking bow. When this picture was added to the archives in 12/2002 she was still recorded as operational as Kapitan Man under the flag of Russia.
