The bulk carrier V.W. Scully is seen in this photograph as she was approaching the entrance of the Welland Canal at Port Weller during the morning hours of June 11th, 1972. At the time it was taken she was hauling a cargo of iron ore pellets from Quebec to a U.S. steel mill on the upper Great Lakes.. Her smokestack had been changed from the former Labrador Steamships colours - A Canadian subsidiary of Interlake Steel, to that of her new owners, Algoma Central Marine. Her hull though was unchanged. Photograph by Gordon Turner.
