Additional details

PHANTOM IV departed this morning at around 10:00 from the former gatelifter dock in Port Weller harbour and secured at the small boat dock also in Port Weller harbour for a short time to await passage upbound. The small research/work boat had been at the gatelifter dock since late last year undergoing extensive modifications.

A lot of work was done by her new owners in the engine room however, the modifications which are externally noticeable included the addition of two large smokestacks, one on each side of the ship's aft deck, a lifting gantry on the vessel's transom that can be swung over her stern for lifting purposes and the fitting of a deck crane between the stacks.

Her new role is somewhat unclear but it seems that she will be spending some time in the area. On her upbound voyage one of the crew said that they will be conducting some kind of work out in Lake Erie and then returning to the canal. More on this small ship will likely surface in the coming days and weeks. Pictures will be posted when they get developed also.
